The McConnell attack dogs at EITB (who I maintain write very well, despite being partisan hacks; Brett Hall, are you listening?) are warming up the hammers for the Senate campaign in the fall, and it’s not pretty: they trot out the Lunsford donation record that we’re all too familiar with (going to Bluegrass Report’s archives to do it? Do I need a better argument that this is being ghosted by McConnell staffers?) and open fire:
Like it or not, McConnell’s voting record — based on his view of the proper role of the federal government — has been steadfast. So it would defy reality for Lunsford to assert that he suddenly noticed that McConnell is a conservative. Surely Lunsford can’t be that dim. The only thing that has changed, from Lunsford’s perspective, is that his two prior attempts to win statewide office flopped; therefore he needed a new office to seek, and McConnell is up for reelection.
Moreover, Lunsford’s contributions to McConnell do not square with Lunsford’s campaign theme that McConnell has been reelected too many times. After all, Lunsford helped fund McConnell’s reelection. Perhaps after the Vencor debacle, Lunsford was startled to see his money bear fruit without a bankruptcy or a Justice Department investigation.
Rawr. Is it possible that Money Mitch, little league all-star, wants to face Greg Fischer in the fall instead of Bruce Lunsford, about whom there is no new dirt to dig up and who has millions of dollars to hurl at that big ‘ol corrupt machine? In any event, it’s curious that the hatchet is coming out this early–all I can say is, Mitch must be worried.
Aside from that, we have news from the LHL that the donor database for the presidential primary is up– it’s worth noting that even though he’s getting whomped in the polls here, Barack Obama is still the leading fundraiser in the state–among ALL candidates. Anybody found anything interesting?

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThey claim Bruce’s contributions to Republicans make him a hypocrite of the first degree, someone who can’t be trusted because he’s not 100% loyal to the Democratic Party.
Well, let me be the first to say it/ask it: Who on earth wants a U.S. Senator who spends 100% of his time being a partisan hack and ONLY falling in line with one political party? Haven’t we spent enough time as a country (primarily Republicans) pushing to ignore at least half of our population at any given moment? Isn’t it time for someone who isn’t afraid to work with the scary other side?
Mitch McConnell has been this country’s chief obstructer for for too long. Bruce may not be able to beat him but it’s wort a shot. Primarily because Bruce has proved that he’s not always going to fall into line with someone just because they’re a Democrat. We all know that’s not always in the best interest of the American people.
Rock the **** on. There are pretty much two schools of partisanship– the school that wants to win every race, because of party dogma (I just articulated that very poorly, but if you look at Hugh Hewitt as an example you’ll get my point), and a school that wants their representatives to be elected thinkers/leaders, not mouthpieces and pawns.
While I think you and I have both called Bruce out for doing dumb things in the name of being in that second school–*cough*ErnieFletcher*cough*, at least he’s there, and not a dogmatic clone like Mitch.
Well, OK, Mitch advanced from “clone” to “controller of clones.” But my point stands.
