Hey, everybody remember how Hillary Clinton is telling us that Michigan is so super-crucial to Democratic efforts in the fall so we should condone them breaking the rules?

They’re driven by a nice little social conservative core– one that’s challenged the affirmative action programs at UM, and now has succeeded in getting domestic partner benefits thrown out from over 20 public universities, community colleges, school districts, and local governments. This is–what’s the word I’m looking for–bad.

For the moment, this has taken at least 375 gay couples out of the American healthcare system–which I’ll gently describe here as “broke-ass”–and strengthened the argument for federal intervention on behalf of couples all over the country that dare run afoul of the religious definition of marriage.

Some advice to Michigan, Kentucky, and every other state that lets “Focus on the Family” and other hate-slinging groups that hide their gay-bashing with words like “family values” when they mean “theocracy”: this is why all the smart people leave. You wanna fix your economic problems? Quit pulling shit like this. It would make a great start. [TP]
